OIL PALM

Malbumi Group has been in the oil palm industry for more than 30 years and we are committed to continuous improvements. Our operations include development of oil palm plantation, oil palm cultivation,  management of plantations and milling of fresh fruit bunches (FFB).

Malbumi Group's oil palm plantations are privately-owned and located in the state of Sabah. We have been in the business for more than 30 years specialising in oil palm cultivation.

Sustainability practice is at the heart of our business. To increase oil palm productivity, replanting activity is carried out in existing developed areas with the adoption of zero burning replanting technique. Reforestation will be embraced as part of our program to better protect biodiversity and promote sustainable palm oil.

Furthermore, workers' well-being is our top priority. Health and safety policy is put in place to promote safe working environment for all employees at the oil palm plantations and palm oil mill. Amenities such as labour quarters, medical services, church, mosque, school, crèche, sundry shop are provided to enhance workers welfare.

Malaysia palm oil industry is highly regulated. We ensure that our business practice is strictly adhered to the industry standards and regulations, such as land use and management, soil conservation, water management and social well-being of our people.

Malbumi Group also engage in milling of fresh fruit bunches (FFB).

Sukau Palm Oil Mill Sdn. Bhd. (SPOM), located 30km from Sukau main junction, is our palm oil mill to process FFB from our own and surrounding plantations.

Sukau (FFB) Sdn. Bhd. located 11.5km from Sukau main junction, is our FFB collecting centre that buys crop from suppliers or smallholders in the nearby area which are then directly transported to our palm oil mill.

Crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel (PK) are the primary products from the milling process which are supplied to the refineries. As the palm oil industry produces large amount of solid waste from the milling operations, SPOM implements an effective system to fully utilise these waste as valuable resources. In the process of extracting CPO and PK from the fresh fruit bunches, considerable amount of by-products such as fiber, shell, empty fruit bunch and palm oil mill effluent are also generated.

These residues are processed and converted to renewable energy such as electricity, steam and heat to fuel power plants at the mill, hence SPOM is self-sufficient in terms of energy. Some of the by-products are recycled as fertilisers and road base materials which to be used in our plantations.

Malbumi Group has made commitment to achieve the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification for both oil palm plantations and palm oil mill to enable all CPO produced to be certified as sustainable palm oil. Furthermore, environmental conservation and wildlife protection are in our sustainability agenda to protect the biodiversity in the region. MSPO policy serves as the guiding document to our sustainability practices.
